Our projects

Budker Institute of Nuclear Physics
Budker Institute of Nuclear Physics SB RAS, organized in 1958, is currently a largest academic institution of the country. The research staff of over 450 members includes 10 members of the Academy of Sciences, 60 doctors and 160 candidates of sciences.

The main directions of the Institute activity are fundamental studies in the particle physics and nuclear physics, physics of plasma and controlled thermonuclear fusion, accelerator physics, synchrotron radiation and free electron lasers. In these areas, BINP is one of the world’s leaders, and a lot of important discoveries and pioneering inventions and results are associated with it. A group of BINP physicists participated in the discovery of the new particle, the Higgs boson, at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN.

In recent years, BINP has created a new free electron laser, having no analogues in Russia and being the most powerful laser in the world in its frequency range, a unique collider VEPP-2000, an accelerator mass spectrometer for ultrasensitive dating of archaeological and geological objects, and a "turnkey" booster for the storage ring NSLS-II (BNL, USA). Besides these installations, the following projects were prepared: a fundamentally new source of synchrotron radiation on superconducting magnets and MEGA Science global-scale installation "Super charm tau factory".

In addition to the fundamental research, BINP has been actively implementing applied developments and installations, using all the experience and scientific potential of its members. BINP produces compact electron accelerators intended for application in industrial radiation technology. BINP’s international partners is: CERN, SLAC, KEK, DESY, BNL, ANL, Frascati, Fermilab, CEBAF, BESSY, RIKEN, KAERI, CAT, and so on.
